Chaudhary Charan Singh International (CCSI) Airport will suspend all daytime flights from March 1 to July 15, 2025, due to essential runway recarpeting. Flight operations between 10 AM and 6 PM will be paused, affecting around 80 flights daily. Airlines have rescheduled flights, and refunds have been issued for 20,000 passengers impacted by the changes. The airport will continue to operate flights before 10 AM and after 6 PM.
The 2,744-meter-long, 45-meter-wide runway, last recarpeted in 2018, is undergoing resurfacing to enhance friction, strength, and operational efficiency. The project will cover 1.80 lakh square meters, including taxiways. According to reports, a full-length parallel taxiway (2,744 meters) and an additional taxiway (P9) will be constructed to enable faster aircraft movement.
The Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system will be upgraded from halogen to LED, cutting power consumption by at least 50%. The project also includes the modernization of airfield signage to meet updated regulatory standards. A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that runway recarpeting will take place daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, ensuring operational improvements while maintaining flight schedules outside these hours.
Despite the temporary disruptions, CCSI Airport will still handle 132 flights per day, compared to the usual 140 flights. Authorities stated that the project aims to improve passenger safety and operational efficiency. The airport, managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), has implemented a plan to minimize passenger inconvenience during the upgrade period.
According to a report in Financial Express, the resurfacing work on Runway 09/27 will be carried out to meet regulatory requirements and enhance long-term airport operations. Officials confirmed that flights will resume normal operations after July 15, 2025, once the recarpeting and upgrades are complete.
